2017 Sixteenth Hong Kang and Pearl River Delta Cooperation Conference

“Thousand People Banquet” is a major event in the industrial circles of Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta. On the evening of December 8, the 16th Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta Cooperation Conference was held at Kande International Hotel in Dongguan City, which was hosted in Dongguan for the third time following the first conference in 2002. Mr. Li Pui Leung, Chairman of TK Holdings (“TK”), attended the conference as a guest at the invitation of the sponsor. “Thousand People Banquet” was accompanied with multiple exchange activities. It is worth mentioning that the series activities of Hong Kong young students witnessing the development of Hong Kong/the Pearl River Delta were also staged concurrently. Mr. Li Pui Leung also served as the chairman of the Planning Committee of “Hong Kong Young Students Witnessing the Development of Hong Kong/the Pearl River Delta”, which was established by the Federation of Hong Kong Industries in 2016, with a view to assisting Hong Kong young students to go to visit Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta area and learn about the science and technology as well as equipment relevant to modern industries. Meanwhile, they were arranged to visit large enterprises which were in possession of advanced equipment, modern factory buildings and perfect management, witness the latest development of Hong Kong enterprises both in Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland; moreover, the committee also strives to promote the exchange between the students and enterprises, assist Hong Kong young students to grow and get employed, and learn about the knowledge outside the books.


Led by Chairman Mr Li Pui Leung nearly 80 Hong Kong young students from Institute of Advance Learning of Hong Kong, as well as Sun Yat-Sen University, Jinan University, Guangzhou University and the Traditional Chinese Medicine University of Guangzhou, visited such enterprises as Dongguan Janus Intelligent Group Corporation, Techtronic Industries Co.,Ltd., and also went to Dongguan International Convention and Exhibition Center to visit the special exhibitions of the 2017 China (Dongguan) International Science & Technology Cooperation Week and the Science & Research Institution Innovation Achievements Fair. At the sites, they watched the scientific and technological achievements displayed at the pavilions of the Hong Kong Scientific and Technological Achievements, Guangdong Academy of Science and Chinese Academy of Sciences.

At the end ofthe visiting, the organizer arranged Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, Chief Executive of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, to meet with the students. Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor said, “Now there are lots of opportunities in the economic integration between Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland. We should make good use of the advantages of Hong Kong and strive to secure more development opportunities in the contexts of the Belt and Road Initiative and the policy of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The students who are now studying in the Chinese mainland should consider combining their career with the development opportunities in the Chinese mainland, and see what opportunities can be utilized in the future. In respect of the urban management, we can see the emergence of smart cities, which employ innovative science and technologies in many aspects. There is still great development potential in the domain of innovative technology in Hong Kong, and Hong Kong will also have cooperation with scientific research institutions in China Mainland and abroad. There is wider range in term of entrepreneurship. Now,many young people like design, which explains why Hong Kong has invested lots of relevant resources in the hardware, software and education. Of course, there are more chances in the China Mainland. More activities such as exchange and visits to factories like today will give more internship chances for Hong Kong students. They can see by themselves the development opportunities in the China Mainland.

Ms. Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor also mentioned the projects with the investment of Mr. Li Pui Leung in the cooperation between Imperial College London and the Chinese University of Hong Kong in the field of innovative bio-medicine and robot technology.

Chairman Mr. Li Pui Leung presented awards to the winners on behalf of the organizer.

The dinner for the cooperation and exchange activity was successfully closed amidst the chorus of the beautiful songs of Chinese and Ode to the Motherland.
